Today’s Responsorial Psalm caught my attention: The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. As I read it, a still small voice inside of me asked: “Do you really believe that?” And as I pondered that question a second one formed- “if you do believe it then how is your life reflecting that? “I want to say that I believe that the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord but so often I find myself focusing on the opposite of that. I am affected by the evil, carried off into negative judgements and woeful lamentations. How many times have I mentally condemned the signs of the times with a shake of the head and the declaration that the world is going to hell in a handbasket!”
Just like Mary in the garden, our eyes can be obscured from the goodness of God that is right in front of us. We become weary and distracted from the reality that every single moment and every single breath is sustained by and through the goodness of the Lord. And then, He calls us by name. He calls us back to His beauty and the joy of His presence. We see rightly again that the greatest of sufferings can bring
about the truest good and triumph. So if the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord, how will you live today? (Read Psalm 33)
